President Donald Trump attended the NFL game between the Washington Commanders and the Detroit Lions on Nov. 9, receiving a mixed reaction from the crowd.

Trump has attended many sporting events in person since returning to the White House, including a Yankees' game, Super Bowl LIX and the U.S. Open, often drawing a similarly mixed reaction.

One Lions player did a Trump dance when he scored a touchdown. Trump was in the broadcaster’s booth during the game, and he presided over a Veterans Day-themed halftime event.

The White House pool report called the reaction to Trump's appearance in a booth window a "near-deafening roar," as people cheered, booed, gave a thumbs down or middle fingers, and clapped.

A video captured by USA TODAY Network reporter Frank Piscani shows the crowd cheering and booing as Trump appears in a booth window and waves at the crowd. The president also appeared with Speaker of the House Mike Johnson at the game, a video shows.

Trump reportedly wants new Commanders stadium named after him

The game Trump attended was held at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland, but the Commanders did not always play there. From 1961 to 1996, the team played at the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium, located in Washington, D.C., a few miles east of the National Mall.

That same site will be home to a new facility for the team, a proposed $3.7 billion domed stadium.

ESPN reported on Nov. 8 that Trump's team has been in touch with the Commanders' ownership group to express interest in having the new facility named after him.

“That would surely be a beautiful name, as it was President Trump who made the rebuilding of the new stadium possible," White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said of the report in a statement.
