TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) -- A travel advisory was issued for the Sunshine Skyway Bridge over Tampa Bay on Monday.

Blustery winds are sweeping through the region ahead of record-cold temperatures, which could mean trouble for some vehicles on tall bridges like the Skyway.

The Florida Highway Patrol issued the advisory due to the winds, which are expected to reach 25 kts (28 mph) on Monday.

The bridge is open, as of this report. FHP shuts down the bridge when winds reach 40 mph.

Drivers are also urged to use caution when traveling on the Howard Frankland Bridge, where choppy waves are splashing onto the roadway and causing traffic to slow down.

Highway message signs have been updated to warn drivers about the high winds and wet road conditions on the Frankland Bridge.
