BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Cricket, a sport that dates back to 1997 in Northwest Arkansas, continues to gain momentum in Bentonville with a growing community of passionate players and fans. This weekend, 5NEWS attended a local tournament and awards ceremony to see how the game is thriving in the region.
On Saturday, eight teams took to the pitch to compete in what many call a truly unique sport in the United States.
“It's not a very common game around the US,” said Keshav Rajput, team captain of the Stallions. “In India, cricket is really big."
With only about 250 cricket players in Northwest Arkansas, it’s clear that this is not your typical American pastime. The game brings its own flair and format.
