Super Typhoon Fung-wong made landfall in the northern part of the Philippines on Sunday, resulting in at least eight reported deaths and displacing more than 1.4 million people.

Fung-wong, known locally as Uwan, was the second storm in several days to hit the country still reeling from Typhoon Kalmaegi, which claimed at least 224 lives, the Manila Times reported .

There were at least 79 individuals still missing and 503 injured following the effects of Kalmaegi, the country’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported on Sunday.

Typhoon Fung-wong, 1,800 kilometres wide, had sustained winds of up to 185 km/h and gusts of up to 230 km/h when it hit Dinalungan on the main island of Luzon on Sunday night. It triggered floods and landslides while also cutting power
