ASHEVILLE - An Asheville man was arrested Oct. 31 after records show he allegedly raped a woman at gunpoint in a wooded area near Pisgah View Apartments in West Asheville.

Jeffrey Dewayne Morris, 52, is charged with second-degree forcible rape and second-degree forcible sex offense, according to his arrest warrant.

A call for service reporting the alleged crime was received at about 6:30 a.m. on Sept. 29, police spokesperson Rick Rice told the Citizen Times Nov. 7. It happened in a wooded area behind the apartment complex, closest to the intersection of Short Michigan Avenue and Granada Street, according to Rice. The location is about two blocks north of Amboy Road and Carrier Park.
