WASHINGTON — Democrats failed to achieve their main objective of extending enhanced Affordable Care Act tax credits in return for reopening the government. The result is that ACA subsidies will remain front and center into December and possibly next year.
With a key procedural vote to end the shutdown behind them, senators will vote Monday on the stopgap funding bill . House lawmakers must vote on the legislation once they return, possibly this week, but air travel is dicey at the moment due to the shutdown. House Republicans can only lose two votes if no House Democrats vote for the bill, and it’s unclear whether far-right House Republicans will be an obstacle to passing it.
