The BBC has been plunged into turmoil following two major resignations . Diehard defenders of the BBC blame a cabal of right-wing media and a board member of similar leanings for this latest crisis. That is the easy version of events. But it does not explain the collapse of an entire leadership team overnight, following the resignation of director-general Tim Davie and CEO of news Deborah Turness.
The BBC was so worn down with a procession of scandals that it could not sustain another one. A report commissioned to assess its internal decision-making was first downplayed and internally ignored, then inevitably leaked in frustration. A divided board – some blaming the report, others horrified by the lacklustre response – was the final straw.
