New Delhi: The national Capital was on high alert after a car exploded near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro station, killing at least 10 people and injuring 24 others, reported India Today.

Mumbai, Jaipur, Kolkata, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand were also put on high alert after the blast. ADVERTISEMENT

It was a high intensity blast, according to Delhi Police. The blast took place around 6.52 pm on a slow-moving vehicle, a Hyundai i20.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and National Security Guard (NSG) arrived at the spot to assist local police.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah was briefed about the blast by Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golchha.

Shah then spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to update him about the incident.
