A man was arrested Friday in connection with a high-speed chase that occurred last week that involved an assault on a government official and multiple drug offenses, Winston-Salem police said.

Kalab Christopher Evans, 26, faces more than a dozen felony and misdemeanor charges, including possession of a firearm by a felon, assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, fleeing to elude arrest, drug trafficking, and multiple traffic violations.

Evans was taken into custody after detectives executed search warrants on his vehicle and residence, seizing a rifle, methamphetamine, about 8 grams of fentanyl, roughly 9 grams of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. He was denied bond by a magistrate.
