A trial for one of the organizers of the convoy protest in Ottawa was adjourned on Monday after the judge decided to wait for his asylum application to be heard in United States federal court.
James Bauder, a 55-year-old from Calgary, was charged with mischief to obstruct property, disobeying a lawful court order and obstructing/restricting a peace officer in February 2022.
According to his social media posts, he fled to the U.S. earlier this summer and filed an asylum application on Aug. 5, claiming he is being politically persecuted. He is also raising money for his legal fees — his GiveSendGo campaign has raised US$15,700 as of Nov. 10.
