BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) -- Louisiana attorney Gordon McKernan plans to give away 600 bikes and helmets to kids across the state this holiday season.

Registration for Gordon Gives Bike Giveaway will be open in eight cities: Alexandria, Baton Rouge, Hammond, Lafayette, Lake Charles, New Orleans, Monroe and Shreveport.

The giveaway is one of McKernan's annual signature community events. "That Christmas morning when I got my first bike is a moment I’ll never forget," McKernan said. "It’s a privilege to give that same excitement to children across the state."

Deadlines to register • Registration closes on Dec. 1 for Alexandria, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Monroe and Shreveport. • Registration closes on Dec. 7 for Baton Rouge, Hammond and New Orleans.
