New Delhi, Nov 10: India’s middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer expressed gratitude on Monday as he continues his recovery from a serious injury sustained during the recent Australia tour, saying he was “grateful to be back” after weeks of treatment in Sydney.
Iyer had suffered a laceration to his spleen and internal bleeding while attempting a catch during the third ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground on October 25. The injury occurred when he ran backward from point to dismiss Alex Carey and immediately collapsed, clutching his rib cage.
Following the incident, the 30-year-old was rushed to a Sydney hospital, where scans revealed internal injuries that required immediate surgery. He was later kept under observation for several days.
