In an address to a gathering in Dublin as part of World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, he shared his own personal story of loss that resulted in the death of his three-year-old niece Estlin in 2017.

The crash, caused by a truck driver trying to overtake a tourist bus, also resulted in his brother Vincent suffering a severe brain injury.

He told of how in 2017 Vincent put Estlin into the child seat of his car to take her from Ennistymon, Co Clare, to her creche in Inagh, a drive of around 10 minutes.
