CANTON, Ohio — Dave Wolgamott, a Canton police officer , died Monday morning after being involved in a crash on his way to work.

According to Lieutenant Dennis Garren, Officer Wolgamott was traveling in the 800 block of Cherry Avenue SE at 6:53 a.m. when the accident occurred. Wolgamott was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later passed away.

"This is a tragic day for our department and for our community. We ask that everyone keep Officer Wolgamott’s family, friends, and colleagues in their thoughts and prayers, and allow them time to grieve during this difficult time," said the Canton Police Department in a Facebook post.

At this time, the crash remains under investigation and officials have not released any other details.
