Singer and actor Sulakshana Pandit passed away at 71, leaving behind a legacy that her niece Shweta Pandit believes was never fully appreciated. Remembering her aunt, Shweta says Sulakshana “didn’t get her due credit from the industry," despite her talent as both a singer and an actor.
She recalls her aunt telling her, “I’m a very sensitive person… maybe not strategic enough for this field."
Sulakshana began singing at a young age and later moved into films, becoming one of the few female artists who both acted and performed playback professionally. Though she featured in several films through the ’70s and ’80s, she stepped away quietly. Shweta says her aunt struggled with health issues and depression in later years but remained sharp and graceful until the end.
