WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A man accused of a deadly shooting in September pleaded guilty on Monday to second-degree murder.
James Standefer will be sentenced in January for killing 43-year-old Jesse Dean Rau of Haysville.
Rau was found with a gunshot wound inside a car that had crashed into a tree. Standefer was accused of shooting Rau while the two men and a woman, who sustained minor injuries in the crash, occupied an SUV.
Standefer ran from the scene and locked himself inside an apartment in the 7100 block of W. Shade Lane in Wichita. After a short standoff, Standefer surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody.
