There was Shoeless Joe Jackson, a career .356 hitter who was banned from the sport even though there was never any proof shown he was involved in throwing the 1919 World Series. Article content Article content

Pete Rose, the sports all-time hits leader, got the boot in 1989 for gambling as Cincinnati Reds manager (though he did pick his team to win the games he bet on), and most recently, Shohei Ohtani, the face of the sport, got caught up in a 2024 scandal but was absolved, with his good friend and interpreter Ippei Mizuhara taking the heat (Mizuhara was not charged with betting on baseball, but pled guilty to other charges and is now behind bars).
