ALLEGAN COUNTY, Mich. — Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) has been detected in a commercial flock in Allegan County, according to the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD).
This is the second HPAI case in the county since it was first detected in Michigan in 2022. This is also the second flock in Allegan County infected this year.
MDARD said bird flu spreads extremely easily between birds, and precautions should be taken to protect everything from backyard flocks to commercial flocks.
HPAI spreads easily through contact with wild birds or infected animals, by equipment and on the clothing and shoes of caretakers.
