A 25-year-old man hunting with his brother in northwestern Minnesota suffered an accidental gunshot wound to the leg Saturday, the day of the state's deer opener.
The Marshall County Sheriff's Office said the two brothers were taking a break from hunting by Florian Slough when they lad their gun on the back seat of their vehicle.
According to the sheriff's office, they then placed all their hunting gear on top of the guns.
"They were removing their gear from the vehicle to go hunting again, and the firearm went off and shot the male through the upper thigh," the agency wrote in a news release.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Karlstad Ambulance and Newfolden Rescue responded to the scene and the man was taken by ambulance to Sanford Health hospital in Thief River Falls.
