The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday rejected an appeal from a former Kentucky county clerk who was fined $100,000 for refusing to issue a marriage license to a gay couple. Kim Davis, the petitioner, had also sought to undo the court’s 2015 decision that legalized same-sex marriage nationwide.   The court made no statement to explain why it was not taking the case, and no justice proffered a dissent.
