INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana's Family and Social Services Administration is moving forward with partial payment of SNAP benefits, the governor announced on Monday, Nov. 10.
The Supreme Court granted a request by President Donald Trump to avoid paying full benefits during the ongoing federal government shutdown.
Unlike some states, Indiana did not attempt to pay those full benefits, and so will not need to backtrack.
Instead, the state said it would start issuing the partial benefits with payments hitting EBT cards as early as Tuesday, Nov. 11.
The SNAP program helps buy groceries for 42 million Americans and costs the government around $8 billion monthly.
The government shutdown is over funding, and the SNAP contingency fund does not have enough money to pay full benefits in November. India
