Hamtramck incoming mayor Adam Alharbi is suing his competitor Muhith Mahmood, who vowed to challenge his 11-vote loss in last week's election , contending Mahmood is not eligible to serve as mayor or run for the office.

In his lawsuit, Alharbi accused Mahmood of living outside of Hamtramck and therefore not meeting the residency requirements for holding the office. The city charter states mayoral candidates and office-holders must have been a resident for at least one year at the time of filing to run for office.
