Nearly a week after Election Day, the ballot initiative to extend Valley Unified School District’s maintenance and operations budget override continues to lead the vote.
The latest numbers from Maricopa County Elections posted Saturday afternoon show that out of 50,000-plus ballots cast, the “yes” votes are outpacing “no” votes 52% to 48%. A little more than 1,500 votes make up the unofficial margin at this point.
First returns the night of the election saw a margin of fewer than 800 votes, which increased to a difference of 1,200 votes two nights later, and then to the current totals Maricopa County Elections shared.
The same M&O override initiative failed at the ballot box the past two consecutive Novembers, in 2024 and 2023.
