A coroner has issued an urgent warning after the tragic deaths of a mother and her newborn daughter.

Jennifer Cahill, 34, died at North Manchester General Hospital in June last year shortly after giving birth to Agnes Lily Wren Cahill - her second child - at home in Prestwich , Bury .

After a week-long inquest, senior coroner Joanne Kearsley said Mrs Cahill died as a result of complications arising from the delivery of Agnes, contributed to by neglect.

Agnes also died as a result of complications during the birth, with Ms Kearsley ruling those complications were also contributed to by neglect.

The home birth was described at the inquest as 'chaotic', with Ms Kearsley saying the family had endured a 'Victorian-aged tragedy' played out in modern times as she hit out
