An EMS captain was choked last week when an unconscious man lying in a Lancaster intersection suddenly woke up and grabbed his throat, police said in court documents.

Lancaster police said the EMS captain was dispatched around 7 a.m. Thursday to South Water and West Farnum streets, where Rashaun Sligh, 33, of Lancaster, was lying on the ground near the Water Street side of the intersection.

Sligh grabbed the captain while he tried to provide medical care, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed by police. A bystander helped free him from the chokehold, police said.

Court documents said the EMS captain hurt his left knee during the struggle.
