The BBC is in the midst of a reckoning. Last week, a leaked memo by a former advisor to the broadcaster’s ethics committee, which warned of “systemic” bias, revealed that the BBC, whose mission statement promises to “provide duly accurate and impartial news,” had “doctored” a speech by U.S. President Donald Trump to make it appear as though he incited the Capitol Hill riot; that the BBC’s Arabic services minimized Israeli suffering while boosting Hamas’ claims; and that the BBC’s LGBT desk censored trans coverage by keeping other perspectives off air.
