A pattern has emerged as another Jan. 6 rioter has landed in legal trouble, as Republicans have aimed to minimize the insurrectionist rioters and whether they were armed, according to an MSNBC report Monday.
John Emanuel Banuelos, 40, was arrested last month on kidnapping and sexual assault charges on Oct. 17, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office in Illinois, NBC reports. Banuelos reportedly lives in Utah, where an arrest warrant was issued in Salt Lake County on Oct. 1.
His sister apparently lives in the Chicago area, where he was arrested sitting in a ride-share vehicle outside a fast food restaurant, Fox 32 Chicago reports. He currently remains in custody.
Banuelos, a Trump supporter, appeared to be filmed firing gunshots at the Capitol during the Jan. 6 attack.
"While Trump pardoned nearly 1,500 people involved in the assault on the Capitol, the criminal case against Banuelos was still ongoing when the president returned to the White House. As such, his Justice Department dropped the case against the rioter the day after Inauguration Day," MSNBC reports.
Several former pardoned rioters have faced legal problems, including one pardoned rioter who threatened House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) and another who plotted to kill FBI agents.
A reporter recently asked President Donald Trump to respond to a pardoned rioter's threats to assassinate Jeffries.
“You have thousands of people that we’re dealing with and, you know, if one goes haywire...,” Trump said. He didn't complete the response and shifted to another topic.
