CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - A judge sentenced a man convicted of shooting his girlfriend to death in 2021 and firing shots at a North Charleston Police officer who responded to the scene.

David Beaufort received a 40-year prison sentence after being convicted on charges of murder, attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, Ninth Circuit Solicitor’s Office spokesperson Ashley Kay said.

Police responded to a frantic 911 call during the early morning hours of Dec. 16, 2021, in which the victim said she believed her boyfriend, Beaufort, was overdosing. That call came in at 2:26 a.m. and help arrived at 2:35 a.m., Kay said.
