The Morris County Medical Examiner has determined that founding KISS guitarist Ace Frehley died from blunt trauma injuries to his head sustained during a fall according to a report obtained by PEOPLE on Monday.

The 74-year-old musician’s death was ruled an accident.

Frehley, born Paul Frehley, died Oct. 16 in Morristown, N.J., following the fall at his home. TMZ reported the rocker had been on life support due to a brain bleed caused by the fall.

His family shared their grief in a statement announcing his death.

“We are completely devastated and heartbroken. In his last moments, we were fortunate enough to have been able to surround him with loving, caring, peaceful words, thoughts, prayers and intentions as he left this earth,” the statement read.
