(KRON) -- San Jose Police detained a man for carrying a loaded unregistered gun.

Officers conducted a traffic stop near Capitol Avenue and Berryessa Avenue in San Jose for a vehicle code violation on Friday night. The driver refused to exit the car and resisted attempts to detain him.

Once the driver was safely taken into custody, police discovered the man was wearing a satchel across his chest containing a loaded unregistered firearm. The driver was prohibited from possessing firearms.

When police searched the vehicle, they uncovered more weapons, knives and narcotics.

Authorities have not released the name of the driver.
