The James Gunn and Peter Safran era of DC Studios is expanding its television slate with a new adaptation of Alan Moore, David Lloyd, and Tony Weare’s seminal work, V for Vendetta , according to Variety .

Writer Pete Jackson (Somewhere Boy) has been tapped to pen the scripts for the series based on the graphic novel that will be set for release on HBO. Additionally, the trade shared that Safran and Gunn are among the show’s producers.

V for Vendetta was first turned into a Wachowskis-written and James McTeigue-directed Warner Bros. feature in 2006; the Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving starring film will be returning to theaters for its 20th anniversary next year. Portman played the story’s protagonist, Evey, a young woman who breaks free of the chains of patriarchal oppression
