A Massachusetts Vietnam War veteran had a Purple Heart medal returned to him through the state's Unclaimed Property Division, officials said Monday.
The Purple Heart belonging to Everett resident James Mooney, who spent over a year serving with the Army in Vietnam was found in a forgotten safety deposit box, according to the office of Treasurer Deborah Goldberg.

Three other Purple Hearts are being held by the state's Unclaimed Property Division — two more have been returned, officials said, part of an effort to return lost military honors to veterans and their families.
