OTTAWA — To help combat a worrying rise of pro-terror support at Canadian protests, a local council of concerned imams developed a guide to help police and lawmakers identify commonly seen flags and symbols.
Entitled the guidebook — produced by the Toronto-based Global Imams Council (GIC) — is meant to provide an easy means of identifying flags and logos used by designated Islamic terror groups.
“There was a challenge in identifying the different flags,” said Imam Mohammad Tawhidi, better known on social media as the “Imam of Peace.”
“We believe that the extremists cannot operate without criticism and the religion needs to be reclaimed from the extremists.”
Tawhidi said the guidebook is designed to raise awareness and serve as a tool for policymakers and law enforcement.
