Fifty years ago, the most famous ship to sail the Great Lakes sank on Lake Superior. The Edmund Fitzgerald was struck by a storm that hit the region on Nov. 10, 1975. Twenty-nine sailors went down with the ship. Even decades later, the shipwreck's legacy persists, becoming a cultural flashpoint for the region and one of the most recognizable in the world.
