ST. PAUL — U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders said Monday that he is endorsing Minnesota Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan for Senate and threw a little shade at her DFL rival, Rep. Angie Craig, in the process.
“Minnesota has a real choice in this primary,” said Sanders, a democratic socialist who ran twice for the Democratic nomination for president, in a news release. “We don’t need more corporate Democrats in the Senate. We need Peggy Flanagan who’ll fight for working people.”
The contest between Flanagan and Craig, a four-term DFL House member, is one of several competitive Democratic primary races nationwide reflecting the tension between the moderate and progressive wings of the Democratic Party.
