BREWER — A Maine U.S. Senate candidate is calling for one of Washington’s top Democratic leaders to resign.

U.S. Senate candidate Graham Platner held a press conference in Brewer on Friday to discuss the budget deal reached in the Senate Thursday night.

“I want to reiterate my call for Leader Schumer to step down. He is just not built for this moment and does not have the fight or the leadership skills to lead the caucus at this point in American history,” Platner said.

In addition to members of the press, dozens of supporters gathered at the Food and Medicine building to hear Platner speak.

Platner also criticized Maine’s senators, Susan Collins and Angus King, saying Mainers deserve stronger representation in Washington.
