The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services says it is closely monitoring a nationwide botulism outbreak linked to recalled infant formula.
DHHS says 13 infant botulism cases have been reported in 10 states. The agency says there are no cases reported in Nebraska or Iowa at this time.
Infant botulism is an intestinal disease, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Symptoms include difficulty sucking or swallowing during feedings, poor feedings, loss of head control, decreased facial expression, a weak or altered cry or loss of muscle tone. Signs of Botulism may take several weeks to develop after exposure.
