Authorities said a suspect was arrested after a woman was fatally shot in the head during a shooting in Jackson.

Mississippi Department of Public Safety Spokesperson Bailey Martin said Capitol Police responded to a call at approximately 11:41 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, regarding a shooting at a residence on Meadowbrook Drive.

Martin said upon arrival, officers found a woman deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.

Hinds County Interim Coroner Jeramiah Howard identified the victim to the Clarion Ledger as Alexius Cotton, 47, of Jackson. Howard said Cotton sustained a gunshot wound to the head.

One person was arrested at the scene, Martin said.
