Alexandra Light , a former principal dancer with Texas Ballet Theater in Fort Worth , is now making her mark behind the scenes. Though retired from performing, Light remains at home in the rehearsal studio as an independent choreographer.

“The art form only gets richer from having a wider variety of people telling stories,” Light said. “It's like we'll never really know what female choreographers are capable of if we don't give them the platform to create.”

That’s why she launched the Dance at the Modern series in 2021. The initiative brings contemporary ballet to The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth and offers an unexpected space for emerging works and female choreographers to shine.
