MACON, Ga. — With overnight temperatures expected to drop below freezing, the Salvation Army in Macon is opening its doors to anyone seeking refuge from the cold, though staff warn that critical supplies are running dangerously low.

Latresa White, who oversees the organization's clothing distribution, said shelter is a necessity for the homeless during cold snaps, but resources like warming centers, hot meals and clothing are equally vital to survival.

"I be like, 'Hey, come get a coat because it's so cold,' and then they come in to get a coat," White said, describing the steady stream of people seeking winter gear.
