So you screwed up your ballot.

Maybe you thought you could get away with a quick scribble instead of your real signature. Or maybe you forgot to sign it at all. Maybe you filled out your neighbor’s ballot by mistake.

The good news is it’s not too late. And if you live in Seattle and voted for mayor, it may end up mattering quite a bit.

Your local election office will likely reach out to you to patch things up — a process that should only take a few minutes — and your vote can still be counted. The deadline is 4:30 p.m. Nov. 24.

Ordinarily, you might not bother. What’s one vote, after all?

But the race between Katie Wilson and Bruce Harrell is on a path to be the closest mayoral election since at least 2001. It’s possible the final gap could be fewer than 100 votes.
