DALLAS — Ernie Haas will tell you that his introduction to the Army was an inauspicious one. He asked one too many "smart" questions.
"We cleaned latrines all day," he said of his teenage venture into the armed forces. "That was my start in the Army," he laughed.
But now 90, and a resident of Belmont Village Senior Living in Dallas, his two-year stint in the post-World War II Army is among dozens honored with portraits and stories at Dallas Love Field. Fellow Belmont resident Irv Stone is featured, too. His 25 months in the Army led to a career in the FBI.
"And I felt like I was giving back to my country by serving that way," said Stone, now 94.
