Lilies toxic to cats: Jun spent $5000 trying to save his cat from a common household plant. Now he's on a mission to protect other pets

Exclusive: The flowers were supposed to be a kind gesture after Jun Peng lost his mum suddenly.

Instead, they inadvertently killed another beloved family member: Peng's cat Reuben.

Many common plant species are toxic to cats and dogs, including flowers often found in decorative bouquets and arrangements.

Toxic flowers include lilies, tulips, azaleas, daffodils, chrysanthemums, amaryllis, oleanders, cyclamen and more.

But that was the last thing on Peng's mind when his mum died in July, after a sudden cardiac arrest and weeks in ICU.

Still reeling from the loss, he didn't think when the sympathy flowers started arriving at his home.

Including at least one arrangement with lilies.
