FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) -- Florence County leaders got updates from various departments and planned for next year's budget during their annual retreat.

County Council members and administrator Kevin Yokim said the work helps to get a jump on next year's budget, which will start being prepared in January.

"We like to hear from council what their priorities are and what emphasis they like to see next fiscal year. It also gives opportunity to get with staff to communicate back with them as well," he said.

Yokim said the county has been helped by more than $100 million collected through a penny sales tax first approved by voters in 2006. As for priorities moving into the new fiscal year, officials want to see airport improvements and countywide heart monitors for EMS workers.
