Cade Horton , the Cubs’ right-hander who dazzled for much of the summer before a fractured rib ended his breakout 2025 season shortly before the postseason, finished second in National League Rookie of the Year Award voting, as revealed on Monday by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America.
Horton received 139 points on a 7-4-3-2-1 scale, second only to the 183 points received by Atlanta catcher Drake Baldwin, whose standout ‘25 earned him NL Rookie of the Year honors. Horton received nine first-place votes and 16 second-place votes.
Matt Shaw , the Cubs’ rookie third baseman who also put together a flashy first season in the Majors, also received four points.
