For all intents and purposes, Roman Anthony proved to be worth the hype that comes from entering the season as baseball’s top prospect.

Though he initially came on slowly after his June 9 debut , Anthony ended up slashing .292/.396/.463 for the season. His 140 OPS+ was higher than every member of the 2025 Red Sox outside of Rafael Devers. And, though his campaign was ultimately cut short in September by an oblique strain , he still finished the year as a finalist for the AL Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year Award .

Ultimately, though, his efforts weren’t enough to bring home the hardware.

Anthony finished third in Rookie of the Year voting, with A’s slugger Nick Kurtz winning the award. Kurtz’s teammate, Jacob Wilson, came in second place. Kurtz received all 30 first-place vote
