TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - As residents wait for SNAP benefits, food banks are picking up the slack.
A judge’s ruling Monday morning is allowing Arizona to continue to distribute SNAP benefits to families for the month of November, but it doesn’t seem to be relieving the pressure that food banks and soup kitchens are dealing with.
Interfaith Community Services closed its pickup service at 11 a.m., but its work for the day had just begun.
“We’re in the midst right now of sorting stuff that’s come in over the weekend,” Interfaith Community Services CEO Tom McKinney said.
Every cereal box and canned food item started in the back of someone’s car, who just wanted to help.
“We’ve had people that come out that are also on the edge financially but still want to make a donation,” McKinney
