JEFFERSON CITY — Nearly all Missouri health insurance providers predict increases in monthly rates for 2026 amid budget proposals in Washington, D.C., that would abandon guarantees for key tax credits keeping many Americans insured, experts say.
The now 40-day government shutdown began over these enhanced subsidies, with Democrats demanding Republicans write in extensions to Affordable Care Act tax credits that are set to expire at the end of December.
These help lower the costs of monthly rates for more than 24 million people across the U.S., with 417,000 plans being used by Missourians, according to data from the health research group KFF .
