CLEVELAND, Ohio — Winter has arrived in earnest across Northeast Ohio, with the coldest air of the season settling over the region and lake-effect snow continuing to fall — mainly in the snowbelt east of Cleveland — before tapering off Tuesday.
An upper-level trough over the Great Lakes is driving the wintry pattern, keeping cold air flowing south from Canada and fueling scattered snow showers off Lake Erie .
Early Monday’s snow was enhanced by a Lake Huron connection that extended flurries and heavier bursts west of the typical snowbelt, reaching into parts of Lorain, Medina and Summit counties. A shift in the winds has gradually pushed that focus east, with the heaviest snow expected across Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula counties by evening.
