COLUMBUS, Ind. — A former township trustee in Columbus is facing more than six decades in prison.
Benjamin Jackson pleaded guilty in court Monday to multiple counts of theft and official misconduct.
The Republican resigned a year ago after an investigation said he used township credit cards to pay for personal items. The allegations involve more than a million dollars in public money.
Jackson now faces a possible 64 years in prison at his sentencing which is set for January 2026.
Jackson took over as trustee in 2016, representing the city of Columbus in Bartholomew County. According to court documents, Jackson charged just under $530 in personal expenses to his township credit card in that first year. In 2023, he charged $253,000 in personal expenses.
